An Unstoppable Movement

     Yesterday as services closed and Haiti Team 93 made their way forward to be commissioned and prayed over, you could sense the Holy Spirit moving. Bill Twigg gave an emotional monologue about the suitcases that were packed with hundred of outfits for girls and boys in Haiti. Pastor Bob rallied the congregation around the team to lay hands on to affirm our call and pray for the mission we will embark on in one week.

Commissioning Haiti Team 93

      As I stood in the midst of the people and with hands laid upon me; I thought of Paul and Barnabas in Acts 13:3 "Then, after they had fasted, prayed, and laid hands on them, they sent them off." (HCSB) We were becoming a part of God's workers just as the first missionaries, Paul and Barnabas. After almost 2000 years, we are still going and carrying on the work of Jesus. This brings me to this point, which also comes from Acts. In chapter five, we see this highly respected teacher of the Jews, Gamaliel quiet the Jewish council in the midst of their anger against Peter and John. He who is not a follower of the Way speaks almost prophetically about this movement, which will later be known as Christianity. He speaks this in Acts 5:38-39 "And now, I tell you, stay away from these men and leave them alone. For if this plan or this work is of men, it will be overthrown; but if it is of God, you will not be able to overthrow them. You may even be found fighting against God." (HCSB) What sound and insightful words from a man who did not profess Jesus as Messiah.

     It amazing to see how almost 2000 years later this Way, this movement is still the center of controversy, attention, and hype in every facet of the human world. People are either against it, for it, or stuck somewhere in the middle not understanding it. The most consuming thought however is that no uprising, movement, rebellion, or cause has been around or gained as much ground as Christianity. Therefore, if we were to recount the words of Gamaliel accurately we see that this "Christianity" must be of God, for it has not been overthrown by Islam, Buddhism, Hinduism, Atheism, Cults, or Science. Today's world with all its attempts has failed at removing the Savior from his glory. This is why people like Team 93 and countless others have gone around the world to spread the Gospel of Jesus. We can see that this movement is of God and all those who oppose it, oppose God. So, do not be afraid of how the world views you, stand strong and courageous in the face of opposition because you have the Almighty King as your leader.
